There is a big difference between trendy and timeless interior design and, so often, designers fall into a trap of following the latest trends that end up looking dated one or two years down the row. While the latest, hottest trends may seem enticing to incorporate into an interior design project, most tend to stay en vogue for a short amount of time, with other trends take their place as styles and tastes change. Timeless, on the other hand, never goes out of style and remains relevant and well-tailored to a client’s needs years after a project’s completion.
Q: What are some of the latest interior design trends that you have observed this year?
A: Lately, we have seen interiors inspired by the tropical and Scandinavian themes.
Q: What is the difference, to you, between trendy and timeless?
A: At Prestige Global Designs, we don’t believe in simply following the trends, but rather, in creating interiors that are timeless. Of course, having said that, we are always on the lookout for creative ideas from the current trends and we always ask ourselves whether those trends could be timeless. There must be a good reason and suitability to incorporate certain ideas into a project.
Q: How do you incorporate some of the latest trends and influences into your design while remaining contemporary and timeless in your approach?
A: To maintain the timeless appeal, we always adopt neutral and contemporary design lines and elements. Neutral colour palette plays an important part in a project to allow clients the flexibility to convert a space to their liking.
Q: What do you think is the lasting value of not always following trends or following trends selectively?
A: Trends phase out easily. It is always about our clients, and never about Prestige Global Designs. We make sure that our designs suit our clients and not look dated even after years of project completion. We use our expertise to advise our clients about the right design, right materials and right colour scheme, tailored just for their projects.
Q: What are some tips that you can give for those clients looking for an interior design approach that doesn’t begin to look dated a couple of years down the row?
A: Select good quality materials and design concepts that can withstand the test of time. This is the principle that Prestige Global Designs believes and advocates strongly for the clients.
